Cooking Class – chapter 1
Explore the local gastronomy and the Cretan products!
Cook our local recipes that remain timeless from one generation to the next. You are welcome to come to our lovely, traditional and hospitable place in order to live a unique experience.
Our traditional recipes are ready to help you take the next step. All our cooking techniques will be performed by an experienced and professional cook so that we can provide you with the best possible gastronomy experience and recreate our grandma’s memories. In addition to following the recipes you will have the opportunity to take a tour to the awarded for its architecture, stone-built village, to drink the well-known Greek coffee and to learn the history behind the products that will be used.
In this chapter you will get to know the Cretan mezedes that accompany the traditional drink of Crete – raki and the wine – in the local venue named “SIMA – Cretan Flavors”
Like in the old times..
Upon arrival in our space you will have the opportunity to take a tour in the Prasses village. It is a lovely stone-built village which is awarded for its traditional architecture.
Afterwards you will be treated to a cup of Greek coffee paired with a required complement treat.
The cooking experience manager will inform you about the recipes, the ingredients, the safety rules and methodology that we will follow.
After you wear your own apron you will be following the chef’s plan of the cooking experience, starting with analyzing the base products which characterize the Cretan diet..
Dakos with tomato and Feta – it is our first dish. You will prepare the Cretan Dakos.
Eggplant Salad – our second dish. We will roast the eggplant over the grill to recreate its authentic smoked taste and you will cut the herbs in small pieces..with the use of olive oil and other hidden secrets you will prepare the eggplant salad.
Dolmadakia (Stuffed vine leaves) -the third dish we will make.. there is no need for many words. its time for action!
It’s time for a break and what comes after is the wine tasting and the olive oil presentation.
The program goes on and what is next is the presentation of the Cretan cheese myzithra and the analysis of its characteristics. With your help,we will make and spread the phyllo, a Cretan pastry dough, in order to make myzithropites with spearmint (Cretan cheese pies). Each participant will wrap and close them and finally they will be served with honey.
Don’t forget that we also have a surprise dish for you that will be made with the use of the Cretan apaki..
You will have the free time to enjoy your own creations.
